Cayman Carnival Junior Batabano

Cayman Carnival Junior Batabano is now in its 5th year, having grown from a small parade that preceded the adult bands, to its own one day event that involves not only a colourful parade, but a Family Fun Day and a T-shirt competition that allows student to share their creativity.

In 2005, Junior Batabano, as we know it today, was launched. This event takes place one week before the adult parade and includes school children from both the government and private schools on the island. Children wind their way through George Town in beautiful costumes, creating a colouful sight along the harbour front, as they dance to the beat of popular soca music. The major judging point is the stage erected on the grounds of the Government Administrative Building. Here, children perform well choreographed movements that always delight the crowd.

The Family Fun Day is a unique feature of Junior Batabano. It is typical to see families lounging around on chairs or the lawns of the Administrative Building, children having fun on the bouncy castles, getting their faces painted or enjoying enticing hot dogs and cotton candy.

Junior Carnival Batabano is truly an exciting, national event that continues to thrive, due to the endorsement of the Chief Education Officer and the support and enthusiasm of principals, teachers and parents.
